Jesus said “Let the little children come to me” and we here at First Lutheran do our best to do just that by teaching children and youth about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and walking with them as they grow into their own faith.
Know that every child is welcome in worship, but also know that, if you prefer, there is a nursery room downstairs from the fellowship hall for children too young for Sunday School. The nursery has a television monitor so those in the nursery can still watch the Sunday morning worship service being broadcast.
During the school year, part way through Sunday morning worship, children from Pre-K to 5th grade go to attend a fun and engaging Sunday School class. We are using Sparkhouse’s Whirl curriculum and we love it. There’s even cartoons! Our fantastic group of volunteer teachers includes Patty Barsness, Nancy Greenwood, Melissa Peterson, and Linda Smith.
During the school year, youth from 7th-10th grade are welcome and encouraged to participate in our combined confirmation program with our fellow Hibbing ELCA congregation: Our Savior’s Lutheran. Depending on what grade the youth is in, classes either take place at First Lutheran or Our Savior’s on Wednesdays from 7-8:15 pm. Through new and innovative curriculums, the youth learn about scripture, explore different theological topics, and discern their own faith as they grow into a deeper relationship with God.
