Pastor John Dietz parish pastor
Pastor John Dietz began the call to serve as pastor of First Lutheran Church in August of 2022. He had previously served First Lutheran from 2002-2012. He has been the pastor of congregations at Palo, Eveleth, and Two Harbors, and was Director for Evangelical Mission and Assistant to the Bishop of the Northeastern Minnesota Synod in Duluth. Pr. John currently provides Word and Sacrament ministry to St. James Episcopal Church twice a month as well.
A native of suburban Chicago and an Arizona transplant, John graduated from the University of Arizona - Tucson with a Bachelor of Arts degree as a religious studies major. In 2001, he received the Master of Divinity degree from Luther Seminary - St. Paul and was ordained on June 16, 2002 by Bishop Strommen at First Lutheran Church in International Falls, where he had served an internship.
Pr. John and his wife, Ashley, live in the parsonage with their two kids, Livia (11) and Jack (8) who are students at the Assumption Catholic School. They enjoy spending time together as a family - cooking and eating, reading, riding bikes and taking walks, and being involved in the school, community, and church.
